Mildred Ellen Adamson

PICTOU - Mildred Ellen (nee Whippie) Adamson, 96, of Pictou, passed away on August 8, 2010 in the Aberdeen Hospital New Glasgow.
Born December 15, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Bessie and Frank Whippie of Belmont.
Predeceased by husband, Warren Adamson (1978); and son Murdoch (1999). Predeceased by her brothers: Beecher, Carmine, and Lorne Whippie; and sister, Inez Boyd.
Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Debbie (Chris Roberts), Mark, Sandra (Peter Edwards), Christine, and Tracey (Brian Stafford) and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mildred grew up on a farm in Belmont. After graduating from Truro Normal School, she taught school at Sundridge then moved to Pictou after her marriage in 1932. Mildred spent the war years with Murdoch in Belmont while Warren was overseas, returning to Pictou in 1946. Her working career included the Town Hall and Hamiltons. She was a dedicated member of the Kirk, teaching Sunday school and participating in many church groups. Mildred enjoyed travel, reading, music, and always looked forward to completing her daily puzzles. Throughout her life she was involved in many artistic pursuits such as painting and pottery, but truly enjoyed the companionship she shared with the Pictou rug hooking group. We were always amazed that, even up to the end of her very long life, she never lost her intense curiosity, indomitable spirit and quick sense of humor that left an indelible impression on anyone who met her. She will be sorely missed by many friends and relatives.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday in the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Pictou, with Rev. Steve Webb officiating. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
Family flowers only please. Donations may be made in her memory to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society of the Aberdeen Hospital.
We would like to thank her special friends Sonny and Pearl MacIssac, and their family, for their treasured friendship and kindness over the years. May you go in peace, for you have been a beacon of light for all of us through your honorable and loving examples. "You have but taken up your lamp and gone to bed while we stay on a little longer, as one stays: to cover up the embers that still burn." God Bless.
The family would like to thank Dr. Farrell and staff of the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital.
