The passing of James "Jim" Adam Elliott, husband of Ruth (Powell) Elliott of Fredericton, NB, occurred on August 11, 2010 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on October 22, 1924 in East Branch, Kent County, NB, he was a son of the late Robert and Alice (Stothart) Elliott. Jim served in the Second World War with the Twelfth Manitoba Dragoons and served overseas in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany from 1944 to 1945. He was the Service Manager for Wallace Equipment (formally Barker Equipment Ltd), retiring in 1986. Jim was a member of Gibson Memorial United Church and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4, Fredericton. He was a volunteer for the Barkers Point Fire Department and enjoyed being in the Elm Tree Square Dance Club.
Jim was an avid and experienced outdoorsman; having enjoyed many years hunting and fishing on the Portobello Stream, Maugerville and swimming, boating and water skiing at the family cottage on Grand Lake.
Besides his wife, he is survived by daughters, Heather Harding (Gary) of Fredericton, NB, Wendy Leger (Peter) of Saint John, NB, Joy Thomas (Robert) of Fredericton, NB and Gwen Walker (Daryl) of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Greg and Josh Harding, Sarah, Kate and Joel Estabrooks, James and Alex Thomas and Emily and Jenna Walker; one great grandchild, Felix Harding; brother, Robert Elliott (Pat) of Fredericton, NB; brother-in-law, Clement Powell (Marilyn) of Sussex, NB; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home Ltd., 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Saturday August 14, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Service will be held from Gibson Memorial United Church on Sunday, August 15, 2010 at 2pm with Rev. David Brewer officiating. Pallbearers are Gary Harding, Peter Leger, Robert Thomas, Daryl DeLong, James Thomas and Greg Harding. Interment will take place at Sunny Bank Cemetery.
