DR. GEORGE POWLES (capitals, bold & centered under picture)
Dr. George Peter Simpson Powles, age 95, of Prince Albert, SK passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at The Good Shepherd Villas. Born on September 16, 1913 in Cupar, SK, he was predeceased by his wife Muriel (nee Sinclair) on March 6, 2008; his son-in-law Cam Partridge in 2004 and his sister Bretta in 2001. George is survived by his loving family: his two daughters, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Daughter Georgina Partridge (Don Somers) of Saskatoon; Dr. Jill Partridge (Dr. Clint Drever) and son Logan of Calgary, AB; James (Erin) Partridge and son Matthew, daughter Claire of Calgary; daughter Joan (Willy) Fournier of Montreal, Deryk (Anna) Fournier and daughter Saskya of Beijing, Stefan (Sue) Fournier and daughter Cadence of Ottawa, Anik Fournier of Amsterdam. George enjoyed a fulfilling career as a family doctor in his wife’s community of Prince Albert. His medical career spanned over 40 years, including two terms as Chief of Staff at the Victoria Hospital. With his unfailing memory, he was always delighted to greet former patients, including the more than 3,500 babies he delivered. An ardent contributor to his community, he was Past President of the Kiwanis, chair of the Masonic Lodge, the Shriners, the Prince Albert Club and Co-Chair for the Building Committees of the Herb Bassett Centre and St. Alban’s Parish Hall. He derived great enjoyment from gardening, golfing and curling and always looked forward to his summers at Waskesiu. George’s final year was spent at the Good Shepherd Villas where he renewed old acquaintances and made new friends. He approached the final stage of his life realistically, with his typical courage, humour and dignity. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27 from St. Alban’s Cathedral, 1410 Bishop McLean Crescent. The Reverend Ken Lyons will officiate. Interment of cremated remains will take place in the St. Mary Church Yard Cemetery. It is the family’s request that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Victoria Hospital Foundation. Family and friends may send email condolences to www.riverparkfuneral.ca. The family would like to express warm and heartfelt thanks to Pat Chuey and her caring and capable staff at The Good Shepherd Villas for their constant attention to George’s needs. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Lesley Gardner, Funeral Director, 764-2727
