ZDRILL – Nellie
Nellie passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, May 10, 2009. She was born in Claytonville in the home of her parents, Frank and Helen Wojciechowski. Her parents were pioneers, arriving in Claytonville in 1910 to start a new life in Canada. Nellie was one of 8 sisters and two brothers. Like all of her family, Nellie toiled long and hard building the family farm. She married Peter Zdrill and had two sons, Sidney and Ernie. As a young married woman, she again toiled long and hard building her own family farm alongside her husband. After many years, she moved to Prince Albert in 1988 and started a new life. She was an active volunteer in the Sherman Towers Social Club – organizing activities, trips and fundraising activities. She served on the executive of the Council of Aging, Herb Bassett Nursing Home Auxilliary and the Prince Albert Heritage Seniors Club. She spent many hours volunteering for the Red Cross, CanSurmount, Two Miles for Mary, the Heart & Stroke Foundation and the Cancer Society. She was honored in 1996 when she was named “Mrs. Winter Festivalâ€. She enjoyed painting and gardening and especially entertaining – cooking and baking for friends and family. She was predeceased by her parents Frank and Helen Wojciechowski; her brothers Michael and John and her sisters Frances, Mary, Sophie and Ann. She is survived by her two sons Sidney and Ernie Zdrill and their families and her sisters Bertha Majchrowski, Josephine Kehl, Elsie Skoropat and Helen Sierzant and their families. She will be sorely missed by her sister-in-law Ann Zdrill; her grand-niece Lessa Mauthe and her niece Trish Santo and their families. Her sisters Josephine and Helen will miss the frequent phone chats. Although Nellie didn’t always have an easy or happy life, she was always cheerful and caring and helpful to everyone she met. Nellie was cremated and a family gathering will be held at a late date to place her ashes at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, Drew Gray, Funeral Director.
