FISICH – Ms. Catharine (Kay) Fisich died peacefully at the Mont St. Joseph Home on May 13, 2009 at the age of 88 years. Kay is survived by her sister Jean Bell of Regina and brother-in-law Bill Porter of Calgary. She was predeceased by her parents Nickola and Mary (Sarchuk) Ficych, sisters Vivian Suchorab, Olga Wingerchuk, Anne Pylypchuk, Sally Fisich & Pauline Porter. Brothers William Fisich & Morris Fisich, nieces Melva (Suchorab) Hill & Lil Wingerchuk and brothers-in-law Walter Wingerchuk, Peter Suchorab, Bob Pylypchuk & Bruce Bell. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews: Patricia Suchorab, Judy Porter, Jackie Porter, Tamara (Tim) Wood of Calgary, Debbie (Bob) Peever of Regina, Joan Porter, David (Marg) Pylypchuk, Terry (June) Pylypchuk of Toronto, Mike Wingerchuk of Prince Albert and Roger Fisich of Vancouver, and all their families. Kay was born on October 5, 1920 on a farm in the Doremy District in Saskatchewan. Kay’s first job was at Rose bottling in Prince Albert. Kay was an avid bookkeeper and spent many years as accountant at Aarons Ladies Wear and then with the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert and in Saskatoon. She also spent many weekends during the summer helping her brother Bill with his “Holidy Inn” restaurant in Waskesiu and later his “Boundary Bell” restaurant adjacent to the Prince Albert National Park. Much of her evenings at home were spent “pinching perogies” which was a popular dish at the restaurants. Kay had a great sense of humour and wit which saw her through the long, hard work days. Kay’s hobby was knitting Siwash sweaters for many family members. Retired for several years, Kay spent her time working on crossword puzzles and watching her favourite soap opera. Her home was always open to the many members of the family that would come from out of town to visit. She will be greatly missed by the family. The family gives a sincere thank you to the caring staff at Mont St. Joseph. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday May 19, 2009 at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel at 11:00 am with burial to follow at South Hill Cemetery in Prince Albert. Arrangements in care of MacKenzie Funeral Home 763-8488.
