BREITKREUTZ (Greenway) - Mrs. Elaine Breitkreutz, beloved wife of the late James Breitkreutz, passed away peacefully with her family at her side at the Comox Hospital on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at the age of 89 years. Elaine was born in Swift Current, SK, on February 7, 1920, and for the past 5 years resided in Deep Bay, BC, with her son, Alfred and daughter-in-law, Wenda Breitkreutz. She leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Deborah McNabb, Quatsino, BC, Gail (Stan) Peters, Bowser, BC; son, Alfred (Wenda) Breitkreutz, Deep Bay, BC; sisters: Louise (Mac) Steer and Myrtle Sannes; grandchildren, Bill McNabb, Todd (Tanya) McNabb, Melanie Peters (Julie), Brendan Peters (Alyssa), Shane (Amber) Kisinger, Devin Kisinger (Andrea); and great grandchildren, Meghan McNabb, Madison Kisinger, Conner, Dorian, Aidan and Kiera Kisinger; sisters-in-law, Olga Little and Ruby Breitkreutz; and numerous nieces and nephews. Elaine was predeceased by her loving husband, James Breitkreutz; parents, William and Hazel Greenway; son, Orville (Barbara) Breitkreutz; brothers Keith, (Rhona) Greenway, Sid (Peggy) Greenway; sister, Mabel (Dave) Axtell, brothers-in-law, Alfred Breitkreutz Sr., Arnold Sannes and Bob Little. Elaine was raised on a farm south of Swift Current, SK, across the road from the Amphion School. She married her childhood sweetheart and close neighbour Jim Breitkreutz on December 1, 1942, in Vancouver, BC. Elaine and Jim owned and operated Central Meat Market in Swift Current, SK, where hard work and diligence were required as they divided their time between work and providing a wonderful home environment. In retirement Elaine and Jim enjoyed camping and fishing at their secret spot in Cozy Cove. Elaine had a passion for curling and baseball, never missing a World Series, and kept an accurate record of all games going back to 1956. She loved music, inspiring many happy sing-a-longs while she played the guitar. Cooking was Elaine's indulgence and she became renowned for her chicken noodle soup, pies and cinnamon buns. She was also known for her competitive, playful spirit that was enjoyed by all who participated with her in bridge, crib and skip-bo. In 2004, Elaine moved to join her family on Vancouver Island and endeared herself to many in her community of Deep Bay. She will be dearly missed, and her life will be celebrated by all who knew and loved her. We love you Mom-Fly with the Angels-and don’t worry! Memorial Donations may be made to: B.C.
