Passed in: New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: August 24th, 2010
With heavy hearts and deep sadness, we announce the death of our mother, Gladys Pasher at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010.
Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Absolm and Jemyma (Keats) Milley, formerly of New Waterford.
Gladys married James Elmer Pasher in April 1949. Da (Jim) died Aug. 25, 1965, leaving mom to raise the family. With her strong sense of family values, she utilized her sheer strong will and determination and raised us by selling Fuller Brush and Avon, house cleaning and driving taxi. She always believed the Lord didn't close one door without opening another.
We are their legacy: Jim (Wilma), Joe (Linda), Ontario, Rob (Pauline), Mary McLaughlin, Glenn (Mary), Judy MacGibbon, Bruce (Tina), Keith (Susan). Also left to mourn are 30 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews as well as siblings, Joan Alder and John Milley of Ontario.
Mom was predeceased by her husband, Jim, sons, Brian, Gary and Donnie, granddaughter, Jo-Anne Horne, son-in-law, David MacGibbon, siblings, Cecil, Will, Alma, Elsie and Vera.
We are left with many great mealtime memories at grandma's house and games in the back yard.
Mom was an avid sports fan (go-Toronto-go), fabulous cook and baker, known for keeping secrets about her recipes. They're safe with you, mom.
Visitation will be held roday (Thursday, Aug. 26) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral service will take place Friday at 11 a.m. in Calvin United Church with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown, with a luncheon to follow at Calvin Hall.
Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Calvin United Church Building Fund.
Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
