It is with great sadness that the family wish to announce that Bhagat Sodhi has courageously succumbed to his lengthy illnesses passing away peacefully at home on Monday, June 1st surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born on July 13th, 1942 in the village of Banur in the state of Punjab, India. He was predeceased by his parents Jagdish and Jaswant (nee Puri) of Punjab. Sodhi is survived by his beloved wife Hardarshan (Darshan) of 41 years, daughter Anjula (Angie) and son Sandeep (Sandy). He was so proud to see his son married to Nina in 1995 and then graduate with his Pharmacy degree in 1996. His granddaughters made the last stages of his life truly bearable and enjoyable. He dearly loved and will forever miss his darling little angels: Serena, Jasmine, and Nya. His immediate family: older brother Narinder (Padma) of New Delhi, younger brother Jeet (Sushma) of Ottawa and dear sister Rajinder (Gurdip) Bedi of Chandigarh, India. Remaining family in Canada: his sister-in-law, Swaranjit (Iqbal) Tuli. Many relatives in India. Sodhi graduated with a BA and then a Masters in Political Science from Punjab University, followed by a Masters of Library Science from Punjabi University. After working briefly in India he decided he wanted to move to Canada. He found his bride and immigrated in 1968. He was briefly in Montreal and then found work at the NSAC as Chief Librarian with then Principal Dr. Bill Jenkins who remained a life long friend and mentor. He proudly became a Canadian Citizen in 1973. Sodhi retired from the McRae Library in 1995. The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the guardian angels who got us through the difficult times of the past year. Transportation to Halifax for dialysis: Mary Armsworthy, John Atkin, Tom Acker, Clayton Daley, Roberta and Henry MacConnell. Thanks to the Tiwana family for their support. Thanks to Wayne Bhola for all his help over the years. Big hugs and thanks to VON, Homecare, Lisa Wilson, Dr. Henderson and Dr. Murray. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers from our second family at Village Family Physicians and Village Family Pharmacy. Special thanks to our friends and partners for covering us to attend to family matters. Finally, thanks to all friends and family for their visits, support and meals. Your kindness at this time will not be forgotten. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 4 from 7-9 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. On line condolences can be made at colchestercommunityfh@ns.aliantzinc.ca Cremation service will take place in Cole Harbour Funeral Home & Crematorium, 1234 Cole Harbour Rd., Cole Harbour (462-5601) on Friday, June 5 at 1:00 pm. Religious Ceremony to take place at the Sikh Temple (Gurdwara) of the Maritime Sikh Society, 10 Parkhill Rd., Halifax, (477-0008) following cremation. No flowers please. If desired, donations in Mr. Sodhi’s memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Agricultural College (NSAC) to establish a scholarship in his name.
