The death occurred peacefully at the Prince County Hospital on Monday, June 1, 2009, of Leo Joseph Maddix of Wellington and formerly of Richmond, aged 86 years. Leo was born in St. Gilbert, P.E.I., on Jan. 16, 1923, to his late parents, William and Exeline (nee Arsenault) Maddix. Beloved husband of the late Mae (nee Bernard) Maddix. Loving father of Gladys (Michael) Chudleigh of Calgary, Alta., Diane (Patrick) Chaisson of St. Edwards, Doris (Les) Martin of Richmond, Leonard of Calgary, Alta., and John (Janet) of Rustico. Survived by his sisters, Loretta (Ned) DesRoches of Wellington and Antoinette (Henry) Bernard of Summerside, and his brother, Martin (Shirley) of Newfoundland. Also lovingly remembered by his 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, Leo was predeceased by his brother, James, his sister, Clara Bruhm, his brothers-in-law: Peter Arsenault, Eric Bernard, Clifford Gallant, and by his sister-in-law, Doris Bernard. Resting at East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside, until Thursday, June 4, then to St. John the Baptist Church, Miscouche, for funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Memorial donations in Leo's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated. Visiting hours on Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment to take place in the church cemetery. Online condolences can be sent to epfuneral@pei.aibn.com.
