George “Warner” Ramsay, 79 of Rawdon Gold Mines, Hants County, N.S., passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 1, 2009, at home. Warner was born in Knutsford, P.E.I., on Dec. 8, 1929, and was the only son of 11 children of the late George William and Janet (Gillis) Ramsay. Warner met the love of his life, Ruby (Adams), and they married on March 3, 1951. They moved to Nova Scotia in 1952 where Warner became a journeyman plumber and foreman. He has been a proud member of Local #56 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union since 1956, retiring in 1980. Warner loved to fish, garden, play golf and spend time with his family. He was an honest, generous, and a hard-working man. First and foremost, he was dedicated to his loving wife, Ruby of 58 years, and was a wonderful, loving father, father-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather. Warner leaves behind his wife and four daughters: Faye (Calvin) Banfield, Carol (Ernie) Stewart, Darlene (Mike) Partridge and Virginia “Ginny” (Kevin) Hourihan. Grandchildren: Scott Banfield (Candace), Janet Banfield (Cory), Amanda Stewart (David), Tony Stewart, Sarah Partridge, Nicholas Partridge, Alex Hourihan and Lindsay Hourihan. Eleven great-grandchildren. Warner is also survived by sisters, Gladys and Irva and many nieces and nephews and was predeceased by his sisters, Ella, Lillian, Myrtle, Edith, Georgie, Jennie, Elsie and Elaine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rawdon Volunteer Fire Department or Gore District Volunteer Fire Department, the Diabetes Association, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family. At the family request, this will be a scent-free service due to allergies. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, from 7 to 9 p.m. and a Memorial service will be held Thursday, June 4, 2009, at 11 a.m., both in the J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Hwy 354 Kennetcook. Rev. Angus R. MacDonald officiating with a private family committal following the service in the West Gore Cemetery, West Gore and a reception to follow in the Rawdon Gold Mines Community Hall.
