The family regrets to announce the passing of their mother on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010. She died after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's at Northwood Care in Halifax, north end. She was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Morrison) Sheppard.
Violet lived many years on Columbia Street. She enjoyed a career as the former manager of The Arcade Ladies Shop and at the service desk at Kmart where she made many dear and lifelong friends. She was an active member of St. Theresa's parish and volunteered at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. She was an avid curler, bowler and fitness enthusiast and hostess of countless great parties. As a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother she enjoyed spending time with her family and creating a beautiful home for them to return to. She was a wonderful role model.
She is survived by Bob and their children, Jordie, Halifax, Jamie (Carrol), Winnipeg, Mary Lou (Eric), Halifax, Todd (Karen), Toronto, and Jason (Helen), Toronto. She is also survived by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren as well as her sister June.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Doug, Pat, Frank, Tye, Irene, Lillian and Tina.
Cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends and remember Violet at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., (today) Tuesday, Sept. 7 from 7-9 pm, and Wednesday, Sept. 8 from 12-1 pm. The memorial mass will be held at St. Theresa's Parish (381 Whitney Avenue) Wednesday Sept., 8 at 2 pm. Donations can be made to The Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia
