With heavy hearts, we announce the death of our Mom, Catherine Gallant on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late William and Bridget (Walsh) Hayes.
Catherine had been a longtime resident of South Street before moving to Seaview Manor. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and a member of Holy Cross Church.
Mom enjoyed reading, watching her favourite sports on television and playing a good game of cards. Her greatest pride and enjoyment in life was her children and grandchildren, whom she encouraged to achieve their fullest potential.
Catherine was a loving mother to Lorraine Howie and her husband, Morenz, Glace Bay, Audrey Murphy and her husband, Mike, Albert Bridge, and Shane Gallant and his wife, Krista, Glace Bay. Catherine is survived by 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and eagerly awaiting the arrival of her first great great-grandchild later this month. Mom is also survived by a large number of nieces and nephews.
Catherine was predeceased by her husband of more than 50 years, George Gallant in 1996, as well as four brothers and four sisters.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home in Glace Bay. In accordance with her wishes, a private family memorial service will be held a later date. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
As an expression of sympathy for Catherine, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one's choice.
