It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alden Estabrooks at the Ridgewood Veterans Wing on September 6, 2010 in his 99th year. He was born in Upper Gagetown in August of 1912 to the late Frank and Adeline (Palmer) Estabrooks. Alden was educated in Fredericton and married the love of his life, Lavinia (MacAfee) in 1938. She died in 2006 after a wonderful marriage of 68 years. Their final home was on Morna Drive in Morna. Alden was a veteran of WW II in the Canadian Navy. He had a long, hardworking career in the Post Office. He loved the outdoors and had many great memories of hunting, fishing, gardening and traveling in his retirement with "Venie". Alden was the eldest of five children; he was predeceased by Marion, Hayward and Ruth. He is survived by his brother Bertram. Alden is loved and will always be missed by his five living children; Carol Ring of Rothesay, Sharon Arthurs of Saint John, Peter (Becky) of Quispamsis, David (Karen) of Saint John, and Daniel (Lora) of Rothesay. He is also survived by grandchildren; Melanie (Paul) Ring, Amy (Mark) Ring, Rebecca (Rich) Ring-Lee, Debra (Bob) Mahwinny, Chris (Sheryl) Arthurs, Paul (Melba) Arthurs, Tracy (Joshua) Estabrooks, Jennifer (Cliff) Moore, Stephanie Estabrooks, Jonathan Estabrooks, Gabrielle Estabrooks, Emily Estabrooks, Ethan Estabrooks, great grandchildren, Erin; Erica, Mathew, Ryan; Andrew, April, Peter; Rachel, Christopher; Michael, Timothy, Tiffany, Janelle; Eian; Jacob, Haily; Trent; Kristen and his great great grandchild Travis.
Resting at Castle "Fallsview" Funeral Home 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John West (634-1701) with visiting on Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Tribute to a Veteran service will be held Thursday at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held from the funeral home on Friday at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. The family thanks the Nurses and staff of St. John St. Stephen Nursing Home, Ridgewood Veterans Wing and the Saint John Regional Hospital for their loving care of our beloved Alden.
