1920 - 2010 - Elizabeth (Betty) MacFarlane formerly of Greenwood Dr. Moncton, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2010 at her residence, Church Court in Moncton. Betty was born in Saint John, NB, on February 4, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Bertha Heans. She attended Wesley Memorial Church in Moncton. For over forty years, Betty and her husband Art (deceased) were involved in Track and Field in New Brunswick, both as organizers and officials, and also the Royal Canadian Legion's Youth Leadership Camp. She received many Legion awards for her participation and leadership and was a life member of Moncton Branch #6 and Past President of the New Brunswick Command of the Legion. Betty was a board member of the Last Post Fund - NB Branch, for many years she was also involved in the Canadian Red Cross Moncton Branch and served on the executive and several committees for both Provincial and National Divisions. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Joanne Pugh (Mike) of Hillsborough; daughter-in-law Anita (the late Neil) of Port Elgin, ON; sisters Mildred Steeves (the late Wesley) of Moncton, Helen Hamilton (the late George) of Belleville, On; brother-in-law Herb MacFarlane (Anne) of Fergus, ON; three grandsons John, Jason (Tanya) and Jeff; six great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Art MacFarlane, son Neil and a brother Ken.
At Betty's request cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service will be held at Tuttle Brothers Memorial Chapel at a later date. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Moncton, NB. Donations in Betty's memory made to Last Post Fund - NB Branch (580 Main St.. Bldg B, Suite 2020 Hilyard Pl. Saint John, NB E2K 1J5) or to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by her family. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Tuttle Bros.
