Norman Smith

1925 - 2010 - Norman "Harry" Smith of Moncton passed away peacefully in the presence of his family at The Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, September 8th, 2010. Born in Manuels, Newfoundland, on March 29th, 1925, he was the son of the late George and Gertrude (Farthing) Smith. He retired from the CNR Car Shops in Moncton in 1981 after many years of dedicated work. Norman was a craftsman with wood and took great pride in his many accomplishments. His passions were biking, boating and camping with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary, son Randy (Doreen) of Truro, NS, daughter Norma Smith (Reid) of Lower Coverdale, NB, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two sisters Betty Burke (John) of Ottawa, ON, and Elsie Simpson (Ron) of St. John's, NF, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Rowena Marshall (late Calvin) of St. John's, and an infant grandson, Shawn.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 11th, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm at Fair Haven Funeral Home. A Memorial service will follow in the chapel at 4:00 pm, The Reverend Chris VanBuskirk officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Norman's memory may be made to the charity of choice.
