Riverton/Truro - Henry Edward "Harry" Coll. The passing of Henry Edward "Harry" Coll, a resident of Valley View Villa, Riverton, Nova Scotia, occurred on Wednesday, September 8th, 2010. He died peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, with his family by his side. Harry was born in Sudbury, Ontario, in 1941. He moved to New Glasgow with his family as a child. Harry made many friends in his early years in New Glasgow, a number of whom he stayed in touch with throughout his life. In 1966, Harry moved to Truro with the rest of his family.
He first worked for the Post Office, where he was known for his dependability, hard work and perseverance. He then worked for many years at Margolians, where his great smile and engaging personality made him a favourite with both customers and staff.
His last career stop saw him work with his father and brother in the family business, Muskol. He oversaw the inventory and shipping operations of the business, as well as coordinating the production floor as the business grew. This time was a source of great pride for Harry, and he truly enjoyed being part of a successful family enterprise.
In his later years, Harry enjoyed the company of family, relatives and friends, and took special interest in the accomplishments and growth of his nieces and nephews, and later, their children.
Harry was a special personality who took great pleasure in recalling memories and attributes that most of us had long forgotten. He enjoyed "making the connection" and drawing people together. He will be very much missed by his extended family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Charles Hector and Ethel Archibald Coll. He is survived by his brother Charles "Chuck" Coll (Heather), his nephews and nieces Charles (Kathryn), Cathie Ross (Brian) and Ian (Paulina), and grand nephews and nieces, Charlie and Hailee Coll, and Heather-Alexa and Brian Ross.
A memorial service will be held in his honour on Friday, September 17th, 2010, at the R. H. Porter Funeral Home in New Glasgow, with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. The service will begin at 11:00am, and will be followed by a reception. Interment will be held at the Heatherdale Memorial Gardens at 1:00pm. Family flowers only by request. Donations may be made in Harry's name to The Parkinson's Society, Maritime Region, the Palliative Care Unit, Aberdeen Hospital, or to a charity of your choice. These would be most welcome, especially in light of his generous nature. Condolences at: www.rhporter.ca
