At the Garden Home in Charlottetown, P.E.I., on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, Barbara Belle Pratt in her 94th year.
Barbara was born in St. Peter’s Bay, P.E.I., on December 22, 1915. She is survived by her sisters, Anna (the late Don) Fraser of Charlottetown and Kathleen (Don) Anderson of St. Peter’s Bay; and her brother, Charles (Barbara) of London, Ontario.
Predeceased by parents, Chester and Olive Pratt of St. Peter’s Bay; and brothers, Halbert (Second World War, 1943), David (1963) and Roddy (2001); and by sisters, Lois (1942) and Mary (Dave) Nott (1996).
After helping her father in the family business for several years, Barbara entered nursing school at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal in 1939. After graduating as a registered nurse, she continued working there until the early ‘60s. She then completed her Bachelor of Nursing degree at McGill University, after which she returned to P.E.I. to work at the P.E.I. Hospital as Director of Nursing for several years. She then moved to Peterborough, Ontario, where she worked at the Peterborough Hospital and the Sir Sandford Fleming Community College Nursing School where she was Director until her retirement in 1979.
After the deaths of her father and mother she returned to the old family home in St. Peter’s where she lived until she moved to Andrews of Stratford in 2006 and finally to The Garden Home until her recent death.
Resting at MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel. Funeral will be held at St. Peter’s Bay United Church on Saturday at 2 p.m. Visitation at the Dr. Roddy Community Centre in St. Peter’s Bay, Friday from 6-9 p.m. Interment in the Acorn Cemetery in Dundas, P.E.I.
