The death of Margaret Irene Van Tassel, loving wife of John Hartley Van Tassel, occurred peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, September 13, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1927 in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Anna (Cameron) Dempster. Margaret was extremely proud and devoted to her family, always caring and supportive. Besides her husband John, she is survived by her children Lillian (Bruce) Davis of Saint John, Linda (Gary) Marr also of Saint John, Edward Vincent Rooney of Calgary, Corrine (Edgar) Bourque of Saint John and Glenda (Daniel) Wiley also of Saint John; grandchildren Kent (Nancy), Lorie (Shane), Shelly (Rick), Tracy (Shawn), Gary (Angela), Alexander, Chase, Sherry (John), Nancy, April (Kirk), Crystal (Jason), Ricky (Melanie), Joshua (Stephanie) and Kelsey; great-grandchildren Elyshia, Kendra, Kieron, Taylor, Jessica, Brittany, Caitlyn, Brady, Noah, Matthew, Luke, Mikailyn, Ashlin, Michael, Amber, Chelsey, Jayden and Kaydin and one great-great-grandchild Maddie-Lynn; brother Harry (Doris) Dempster of Saint John; brother-in-law Walter Van Tassel of Saint John; sisters-in-law Ruth Dempster and Avis Dempster both of Saint John; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband Joseph Francis Rooney, infant twin boys Ricky and Wayne Van Tassel, infant sister Lilly, sister Hazel and brothers Howard, Donald and Andrew.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd. Saint John (646-2424) with visitation on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 11 a.m. Private family interment will be held at a later date. Donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
