It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Francis Rose, 88, of New Waterford, formerly of Lingan, on Sept. 15, 2010 at the Veterans Memorial Hospital, Halifax.
Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late David and Catherine (MacLellan) Rose.
Edward was a former member of St Joseph's Church in New Victoria and Lingan. He served with the Cape Breton Highlanders during the Second World War and was a retired coal miner, having worked for 40 years in various coal mines throughout the area. Edward was known for his strong work ethic. He was a kind, thoughtful, quiet man who enjoyed the company of family and friends. He also enjoyed telling stories of his mining days as well as years gone by. Edward loved his frequent trips to see his family in the Halifax region. He also had a passion for playing guitar and listening to his collection of old music. He will be sadly missed by all.
Surviving are daughters Mary Lou MacNeil, New Waterford, Terri (Paul) Quinn, Dartmouth, Paula (Steve) Mossop, Bedford; brother Leo (Marge) Rose, Lingan; grandchildren, Janice MacNeil, Elizabeth (Dwayne) Campbell, Dr. David Quinn, Tara and Jason Quinn, Angela (Nathan) St. Onge, Christopher and Craig Mossop; great-grandson, Joshua Owen Campbell.
Edward was predeceased by his wife Ann (Kennedy), son David in infancy and brother Bernard in Ontario.
Visitation will be held Friday from 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Saturday, Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Lingan.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Cape Breton Branch SPCA, or a charity of one's choice.
