Trenton - Joseph Vernon Earle, age 85, of Camp Hill Veterans Hospital, Halifax and formerly of Trenton passed away Thursday, September 16, 2010 in Halifax. Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late James and Ada Elizabeth (Langille) Earle. He was retired from the forge at Hawker Siddeley. He was a veteran of the Second World War, after which he rejoined the army from 1948-65. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29, Pictou County Sports Hall of Fame, N.S. Sports Hall of Fame. He was founder of the Victoria Day Road Races, involved with various ball teams, Family Volunteer for N.S. in 2003 and recipient of numerous awards. He is survived by daughters: Barbara (John) Carrigan, Westville; Patricia (Grant) Polley, Halifax; Jo-Ann (Tom) Luddington, Bridgeville; Mary Ann (Jim) Humphreys, Little Harbour; Karen (Doug Burns), Abercrombie; sons: Robert (Marilyn), Dartmouth; Douglas (Lori), Centreville; Vernon "V.J." (Wendy), Trenton; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters: Ruth, Florida; Violet, Berwick. He was predeceased by his wife Elda (Arthur); infant daughters: Elaine and Frosty; grandsons: Blaine Polley, Burton Luddington; sisters: Helen and Dorothy. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Saturday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home Trenton. Memorial service 2 pm Sunday in Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 Trenton with Mr. Fergie MacKay officiating. Reception to follow. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Donations may be made to Veteran's Memorial Hospital Halifax or Joe Earle Victoria Day Road Races.
