CALGARY/PICTOU – Douglas Doug Mitchell Graham, 77, passed away peacefully June 3, 2009 in Calgary with his family at his side.
Born January 3, 1932, in Pictou, he was the son of the late Jessie (Rogers) and Russell Graham.
Doug was predeceased by his wife, Leona (MacDonald); and survived by his children, Cathie (Dave), Fraser (Cindy), Roger and John; granddaughters, Candace and Alexandra.
Doug was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, serving in Gagetown, Kingston, Peace Keeping mission in Congo, Africa and Calgary; after retirement from the Army Doug enjoyed a career with A.D.T. as an alarm specialist. In 1994 Doug and Leona returned home to Pictou where he was involved in Meals on Wheels and the New Horizons Seniors Club.
In 2003 Doug moved to Strathcona Place to be closer to his mother who was a resident of the Maritime Odd Fellows Home. He became a resident of the Odd Fellows Home himself in 2007 and moved to Calgary in 2008 to be closer to his children. Doug was a loving family man, who put the needs of his family first; his love of animals, infinite patience and quick wit will be missed.
Funeral Mass will take place 2 p.m. Monday from Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou, with Rev. Thomas John officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. A reception will follow in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
