Regretfully and with sadness we announce the passing of Allister Macaulay which occurred on Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, at Taigh Na Mara Nursing Facility, Glace Bay.
Born in Glace Bay in 1921, he was the eldest son of John Davis and Kate MacDonald Macaulay.
Allister was instrumental along with his parents in building the business known as MacAulay's Hennery and took over as president when his parents retired to Florida. He then decided to pursue other interests and handed the presidency over to his brother, Jack and went on to become a successful automobile salesman, retiring in 1990 after 24 years of service.
Allister was a veteran of the Second World War serving in England for five years.
Allister is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, the former Hannah MacDougall; a son, Terry; two brothers, Jack and Donald; and a sister, Helen.
Besides his parents, Allister was predeceased by his brother, Fraser and two sisters, Margaret and Marion.
Visitation for Allister MacAulay will be held Thursday, Sept. 23, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24 at Knox United Church, Glace Bay, with Rev. Dr. John Finlayson officiating. Interment will be in St. Anne's Cemetery. A reception will follow in the church hall, all are welcome.
