Shirley Chiasson, age 64, passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit on Tuesday, September 28, 2010, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late John James and Lorena (Spencer) McDonald.
Shirley had many friends that she thoroughly enjoyed this summer when she was visiting her grandchildren in Toronto, the highlight of her summer. She was an avid dart player.
Shirley is survived by three sons, Danny, Ontario, Glen (Sonya), Victoria Mines, Ian, South Korea; husband, Danny; grandchildren, Payton, Nicole, Brandon, Taylor and Carson. Also surviving are sisters, Agnes (Kenny) Pastuck, Cecilia McPherson, Rosie Smith, Janice Mackie, Ann (Clarie) Gillis; brothers, Joseph (Rosalie), Johnny; mother-in-law, Jeanette Chiasson; brothers-in-law, Michael (Charlaine), Joey and a sister-in-law, Helen.
Shirley was not only a loving, caring mother to her children; but also to many other children that she baby-sat over the years.
She was predeceased by brothers, Melvin and John William; sisters, Kathleen Currie, Melissa White and Theresa Cooke.
Visitation is today, Friday, Oct. 1, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Bill Rankin is Saturday, 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church followed by a reception in the church hall. Cremation to follow with interment at a later date in the parish cemetery.
The family offers its sincere thanks to the Palliative Care Team at the Regional Hospital and Dr. O'Brien, Glace Bay.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to palliative care or the cancer society.
