Dec. 13, 1947 - Sept. 28, 2010. Passed away peacefully at home after a hard fought courageous battle with cancer on September 28th surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by father & mother, Michael and Kathleen Power, sisters Elizabeth and Margaret, father and mother-in-law Lewis and Sadie Mercer and brother-in-law Lloyd Mercer. Left to celebrate his life are his loving wife of 40 years, Rosalind (nee Mercer); daughters: Melanie (Andrew) Hallett, Lori (Greg Woolgar); poppy's pride and joy Samantha and Nicholas Hallett; two brothers: Tom (Barb) and Michael Power; and six sisters: Marie Strickland, Kitty Pittman, Frances (John) Evoy, Ruth (John) Foster, Carol (John) Lundrigan and Beverly (Richard) Kelly; sisters-in-law: Frances (Gerald) Sheppard, Linda (Owen) Green, Louise (Calvin) Drover and Peggy Mercer; brothers-in-law: Lewis (Janice) Mercer, Glenn (Maria) Mercer and Darrell Mercer (Susan) and many other relatives and friends. Larry retired after 39 years working with the City of St. John's as a sander/plow operator. Proud husband, father and grandfather, Larry enjoyed many hobbies, especially his woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren. He had a zest for life and was a friend for life. He will be missed by many. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Mark Porter, his family physician, as well as Dr. Ahmad and the rest of the staff at the Bliss Murphy Centre for their compassion, guidance and care over the past year. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Avenue in Mt. Pearl on Thursday, September 30th from 2-4 and 7-9 and Friday, October 1st. from 10-12 and 2-4. Mass of Christian burial will be held at Mary Queen of the World Church on Topsail Rd. Saturday, October 2nd at 9:30 a.m. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations can be made to the Dr. H.
