B. Jean Melanson age 92, of Amherst passed away Friday, October 1, 2010 at Gables Lodge, Amherst. Born in Howlan, P.E.I., she was a daughter of the late William and Belle (Thomson) Matthews. Jean worked for the MacEachern's Theatre and Hardware Store in River Hebert and later purchased the business which she ran for many years. She was involved in the blueberry industry for many years in Lower Maccan. Jean was a member of the Trinity United Church and the UCW in River Hebert. She is survived by one nephew Michael (Carol) Dormer of Upper Coverdale, N.B., one great-niece Michelle Dormer (Darrell) and her children Brittany and Mitchell, one great nephew Dan (Wendy) Dormer and their children Kayla and Matthew, one step daughter Gail (Joe) Bourgeois and one step son Vaughn (Dianne) Melanson, both of Amherst as well as many cousins and friends in P.E.I. Jean was predeceased by her husband Ralph and a sister Mildred "Mickey" Dormer. There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 11 a.m. from Campbell's Funeral Home, Amherst with Rev. Pam Bowman officiating. Interment will take place in the River Hebert Cemetery. Family flowers only.
Memorial donations in Jean's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of N.S., Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetic Association.
