It is with deep sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Michael Power.
Born in Glace Bay on Jan. 4, 1952, he was the son of the late Patrick and Angela (Neary) Power. Mick had lived in Ashby for over 30 years.
Mick was a retired school teacher who had worked for the Cape Breton-Victoria School Board for over 33 years. Mick was young at heart, fun loving and always the life of the party. He was a wonderful baker and cook. Mick enjoyed Celtic music, playing the spoons and had a natural artistic talent. Mick had a soft spot for children and enjoyed spending time making crafts with his many grand nieces and nephews.
Mick will be sadly missed by his sister, Patsy MacDonald; brother, Milton, both of Glace Bay. He will also be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews, Trish (Bob) Maitland, Roseann Wilson, Danny MacDonald, Steve (Claire) MacDonald, Pat (Sheri) Power, Debbie Power, Trevor Ludy, Sherry (Michael) Gibson, Wally McKinnon; and many grand nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, John and Beatrice (Cook) Neary, paternal grandparents, Bernard and Mary (Delaney) Power, nephew, Bernard 'Bernie' MacDonald and niece, Angela McKinnon.
Visitation for Michael 'Mick' Power will be held Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Leo's Church with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations in Mick's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
