Shirley Cecilia Foote, 71, of Truro, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, surrounded by her loving family, in the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro.
Born in North Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Helen 'Nellie' (Osmond) Hare and stepmother, Patricia (O'Neil) Hare.
Shirley was a support counsellor at Colchester Community Small Options, Truro, for 21 years and prior to that worked in various restaurants in Cape Breton and Truro areas.
But first and foremost she was always a full-time devoted, loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, the foremost being her family and home. She took great pride in her home and yard for which she received many compliments from those passing by. She loved riding her bicycle which she did up until the last two years, due to her ill health.
She is survived by daughters, Sherry Fletcher (Gary Loughead), Bible Hill, Denise Cassidy (Jonathan Gero), Valley; sons, Stanley (Cathy), Beaverbrook, Shane (Chalayne), Bible Hill; sisters, Flo Gwinn (Fred), North Sydney, Winnie Stroud (Glen), St. Catharines, Ont., Alfreda Brown (Winston), Salmon River, Patty Olson, North Weymouth, Mass., Charlene McCulloch (Charles), Tennecape; brothers, Stanley, Edwardsville, Cape Breton, John (Cindy), Bible Hill, Reg (Sandy), Truro Heights, Dennis (Gail), Truro, Rob (Lorraine), Earltown; grandchildren, Adam, Samantha, Michelle, Kayla; great-grandchildren, Carson, Jaida; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by grandson, Joshua, brother, Stanley Reginald.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 6 at the Mattatall-Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 7, at the Valley United Church, Rev. Brian DeLong officiating, with interment in the Crossroads Cemetery Valley. A reception will follow in the church basement.
Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
