Allan worked as a butcher and meat cutter all his working years. Until 1998, he was owner of Minesing Meats and Abattoir and when he moved to New Glasgow, he was employed by Atlantic Superstore as a meat cutter since it opened in 1999. Allan has always been very proud of his Scottish Ancestry which was inspired by his father and mother. He was a skilled and highly competent piper, patient to the extreme and he motivated many to persevere and master this difficult musical instrument. His brothers Hugh and Lachie and sister Bonnie are pipers while his sister Dot, played the drums. Until his death, Allan piped with the Clan Thompson Pipe Band. Allan was an extremely kind, caring man and was most happy when doing for others and not expecting anything in return. His wonderful sense of humour and quiet manner endeared him to many. He will be sincerely missed by his loved ones and friends.
A family and friends memorial service will be held in Stayner, ON, on Saturday, June 13.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, June 14, in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 15, in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, with the Rev. Richard Sand officiating.
