George Edward MacNeil, 59, of Iona Cape Breton, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at Victoria County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Iona, he was a son of the late Hector M. and Anna C. MacNeil. He was a member of St. Columba parish, Iona.
George loved the simple things in life, softball games, fishing, spending time with friends and family and of course long walks on the roads of Iona. He was well known for lending a helping hand to anyone in need.
He is survived by one son, Shane MacNeil, Baddeck; one daughter, Helen (Ron) Nock, Calgary, Alta.; two brothers, Jimmy (Jerry), Washabuck, John Hector (Juanita), Hazeldale; three sisters, Sadie (Michael) MacKenzie, Big Beach, Kaye MacNeil, Iona, Josie (Richard) Bonaparte, Iona; two grandchildren, Dylan and Brody Nock, Calgary, Alta.
He was predeceased by his sister, Sissy MacNeil.
The body is resting at St. Columba Parish Centre, Iona with visitation Friday, June 12, 2009, from 3-9 p.m. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009 at St. Columba Church, Iona, with Rev. Paul Abbass officiating. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery.
