It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Jessie Ann White, 88, of New Waterford, on Oct. 10, 2010, peacefully at home surrounded by her family.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Ronald and Mary Belle (MacKenzie) MacKinnon.
Jessie was a devoted member of the Parish Church of St. Leonard and one of the original members of St. Ann's Society of Mount Carmel and the CWL. She was also a member of Aging Gracefully, the New Waterford Hospital Auxiliary and the Joy Program.
A devout catholic, Jessie loved being in the presence of family and instilled in them her strong faith.
Jessie's kitchen was her domain; cooking,baking, making sure the tea was made and serving those who came into her home.
Surviving are daughters, Mary (Ed) O'Quinn, Agnes (Phonse) Martell, with whom she resided, both of New Waterford, Ann White MacLellan, Okotoks, Alta.; sons, Joseph (Tessie), Ambrose (Marilyn), Greg (Donna), all of New Waterford; sisters, Cassie Cote, Glace Bay, Catherine MacKay, New Waterford; grandchildren, Darren, Vernon, Dale, Joanne, Nancy, Robert, David, Gregory, Carol Ann, Craig, Deanna, Dillon, Heidi, Otto, Wayne; great-grandchildren, Cal, Jeremy, Jana, Liam, Mya, Cassie, Connor, Tessa, Isabella and Layla.
Jessie was predeceased by her husband, Otto, brothers, Duncan, Angus, John 'Jiggie', Dan 'Diddles' and Duncan, sisters, Mary Ann MacLean and Belle O'Connor.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 13 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass celebrating Jessie's life will take place Thursday, Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard's parish hall, Convent Street, New Waterford. The Knights of Columbus will assemble in the funeral home for a prayer service on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Donations in her memory may be made to the ALS Society of Nova Scotia or Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton.
