NEW GLASGOW – Lois Alfreda Hafey, 95, formerly of Trenton and Pictou Landing, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on June 10, 2009 at the Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow.
Born in New Glasgow, Lois lived her early years in Londonderry, Colchester County.
She was a daughter of the late John and Margaret (Ross) O’Brien.
She was a member of the First United Church, Trenton, and a former member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Pictou Landing. She was the Charter President of the United Church Women in Trenton; a former Sunday School teacher, a former member of the Steeltown Senior’s Club in Trenton and Progressive Conservative Women’s Assoc of Pictou Center.
She is survived by son, Charles, Trenton; daughters, Bonnie Hafey, Stellarton; Donna (Joe) MacDonald, North Carolina; sister, Kathleen (late Keith) Scott, Guelph, Ontario; sister-in-law, Johanna Hafey, Stellarton; grandchildren: Cathy (Derek) Keoughan; Thomas Hafey; Evelyn (Ron) Kell; Jean (Clarence) Elms; Susan (Harold) MacLeod; Terri (Neil) Fraser; Leah MacQuarrie; Janet (Ted) Conroy; 11 great-grandchildren, plus many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by Glen Arthur Hafey, her husband of 62 years; brothers: William, John, Alfred, Borden, and Harold O’Brien; and sister, Irene (Harry) McLean.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, Trenton. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the First United Church, Trenton, with Rev. Debra Orton officiating. Reception to follow. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens, Alma.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made in her memory to the IWK Children’s Hospital in Halifax where Lois was a patient for one year when she was an infant.
