It is with sadness we announce the passing of Mabel Eugene MacDonald, age 94, of Truro, on June 9th 2009 at Meadowland Villa, Bible Hill. Mabel was born on February 15, 1915, in Windsor. She was a daughter of the late James Wesley and S. Blanche (Messervey) Livingstone. She graduated high school from Edgehill School for Girls, Windsor. Mabel began her working career at the Colonial Fertilizer Company in Windsor, N.S. During the Second World War she served in London, England with the Red Cross. After the war she worked for McCarthy Motors Ltd., Windsor and then with her husband Sidney who owned MacDonald’s Home and Auto, Truro. She was a secretary for the VON, Truro, for many years. Mabel was an Honorary Life Member and past president of the Truro Ladies Golf Club, Primary Life Member and Past Regent of the Colchester Chapter of the I.O.D.E., Charter Member and Past President of the Marigold Guild of Needle Arts, Charter Member and Past President and secretary of the Westmount Park Garden Club, Charter Member and Past President of the Ladies Division at the Truro Curling Club, Member of the Tennis and Golf clubs in Windsor, Nova Scotia, and Member of the First United Church, Truro. Mabel was an ardent stitcher, avid reader, bridge player and enjoyed bicycling, curling, golf, swimming and skiing. She is survived by her granddaughter, Stacey MacDonald; great-granddaughter, Makayla Eddy, both of Airdrie, Alberta. Mabel leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Besides her parents, Mabel was predeceased by her husband, Sidney Ross MacDonald; son, Michael MacDonald, and an infant brother. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 15th from 1:00 pm until time of the memorial service at 2:00 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Rev. Betty Darby officiating. Reception to follow the service. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to the First United Church, the I.O.D.E., the VON, Kings Edgehill School in Windsor or a charity of choice. Interment in Old Barns Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Slipp, Ray and Eunice Smiley; the staff at Parklands Estates, Truro, the Shannex Select Care ladies, especially Carol and Audrey and Meadowland Villa, Bible Hill who provided excellent care for Mabel.
