It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful and loving daughter, sister, mother and grandmother, Annette O'Brien. Annette passed away Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness, with her loving family by her side.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of Alphonse and the late Viola 'Lu' (Walsh) O'Brien, and was a member of St. John's Church, New Aberdeen. Annette worked at several jobs in our local area, her last job was with Highland Fisheries where she retired from.
Annette was a very jolly person who loved to sing, dance, bowl, play darts and listen to country music. She was a true Toronto Maple Leafs fan and loved driving her car, especially driving her numerous nieces and nephews all over town, her car was known as "net-nets taxi".
She will be sadly missed by her sons, Lloyd (Sam) Hall, Halifax, Phonsie Hall; and daughter Sandra Hall, both of Kitchener, Ont. Nanny Net-Net is also survived by eight beautiful grandchildren, Jessica, Logan, Emily, Liam, Gracie Lu, Megan, Samantha, Evan; sisters, Marie (Ike), Donna (Marty), Sheila (Mike), Vera (Joe), Paula (Johnnie); brothers, Jack (Nancy), Wayne (Martha), Mickey; and most of all by her father, Phon. Annette is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her mother, 'Lu' she was also predeceased by brothers, Tommy, Phonsie, Kevin and sister Patsy.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Oct. 19 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral home 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Fr. Leo Boone will be celebrated Wednesday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m. in St. John's Church, Glace Bay, followed by interment in the parish cemetery. All are invited to join the family for a reception in the church hall.
Memorial donations in Annette's memory may be made to the An Cala Unit of the Cape Breton Palliative Care Society.
