It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great-grandmother. Olive passed away at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010.
Born in Reserve Mines, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Annie Mae (MacNeil) Gallant, and was a member of St. John's Church, New Aberdeen. Olive was a former resident of the Hub.
Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family, watching the Toronto Blue Jays and listening to music especially Daniel O'Donnell.
Olive is survived by her sons, Joey (Eleanor), Gerald (Bev), Bernie (Brenda), Wayne (Frances); daughters, Karen, with whom she resided, Corrine (Myles) Waidson; and a very special grandson, Dwayne (Andrea), whom she raised as her own son; brothers, Cyril and Earl; sister, Bernice; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson; numerous nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to mom's best friend and daughter-in-law, Brenda for all she did to help her throughout the years.
Olive was predeceased by her husband, Harold, brothers, Jimmy and Sheldon, sisters, Verna and Margaret and grandson, Darren in infancy.
Visitation will be held today, Oct. 22 at Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Saturday, Oct. 23rd at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment to follow in St. John's Cemetery, Wallace Road, Glace Bay.
