Yuill, Florence Margaret: The family announces the passing of Florence Margaret Yuill of Cedarstone Enhanced Care Truro and formerly of Old Barns on Friday, October 22, 2010. Born in Upper Stewiacke in 1929, she was the only child of the late Bernard and Ada (Reynolds) Allen. She was a 1947 graduate of the Nova Scotia Normal College and taught for six years before her marriage to Isaac Yuill of Old Barns in 1954. She resumed her teaching career at the Colchester Regional Vocational School in 1967 and retired from that position in 1987. Florence was the proprietor of Yuill's Bed and Breakfast for 10 years and was very active in community life in Old Barns. She was a member of the Old Barns United Church, a UCW member, a C.G.I.T. leader, a Sunday School teacher, and for several years she canvassed for the Canadian Cancer Society and hosted the community Terry Fox Walk. Being a strong supporter of the Farmer's Association, Florence initiated different projects involving rural beautification including roadside clean-up and mail box improvement. She organized the first annual pumpkin growing contest in Old Barns and regaled us all with her sharp wit at several of the earlier Annual Farmer's Xmas dinners. She is survived by sons Lloyd and Richard of Old Barns and daughter Ellen (Jim Turner) of Bridgewater, NS. She was predeceased by her eldest son Rodney and her husband, Isaac. Visitation will be held 6:30 - 9:00 pm Sunday, October 24, at the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro. Service of Remembrance will be 2:00 pm Monday, October 25, in the Old Barns United Church, Rev. Ian Harrison officiating. Reception to follow in the fellowship hall of the church. Family flowers only. In memoriam donations to the Old Barns United Church or the Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia would be appreciated. Private interment in the Old Barns Cemetery.
