WHIDDEN, Edith Lillian - 86, The Mira Long Term Care Centre, Truro, formerly of Greenfield and Bible Hill, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 24, 2010, at The Mira. Born June 29, 1924, in Valley, Colchester County, she was a daughter of the late James Burton and Bessie Emma (Damery) Fox. Her special interests included the annual Fox Family Reunion that has been held since 1956, gathering information on the family tree and collecting recipes. She was active in Greenfield United Church, where she was a member of the UCW and served as secretary/treasurer for a number of years. Widowed at the age of 33, she and her late husband, Guy, had a small sheep and dairy farm in Greenfield. Along with her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by brother, Lyle Fox; granddaughter, Heather Morrison; brother-in-law, Rayburn White. Edith is survived by her son, Arden, Bible Hill; daughters, Linda (Ian) MacDonald, Halifax; Carol (Gary) Morrison, Plainfield, Pictou County; Isabel Whidden, Halifax; grandchildren, Matthew (Shannon) MacDonald, Ottawa; Aaron MacDonald, Halifax; Bonnie Morrison, Plainfiled; great grandson, John James MacDonald, Ottawa; sister, Joyce White, Valley, Colchester County; several nieces and nephews. Special thanks are extended to the staff at The Mira, VON and numerous other caregivers who looked after Mom. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Edith's family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, October 27, 2010. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, October 28, 2010, in Greenfield United Church, Greenfield, Colchester County, Reverend Brian DeLong officiating. Reception will follow in the church basement. Interment in Greenfield Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Edith's memory to a charity of choice are welcomed.
