Born In: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed in: Reserve Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: October 25th, 2010
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our brother George MacNeil, age 72. George passed away on Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, at his residence.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Murdock and Mary (Hache) MacNeil and was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines.
Earlier in his life Robin worked in Ontario for a number of years, returning to Reserve Mines due to poor health. While residing in Reserve he drove for Hache's taxi, a job he truly enjoyed, because he was a very friendly person and loved meeting people. In his spare time Robin could be seen watching local softball games in Reserve and was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan.
He will mainly be remembered as a fun loving person with a great sense of humour.
George will be sadly missed by his brothers, Cecil (Dorothy), Ontario, Bernie (Marie), Cole Harbour, Manzie (Chrissie), Dominion; sisters, Betty Manuel, Ottawa, Josie Forward, New Waterford; uncle, Simon 'Sako' Hache; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, George was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence.
In honouring George's wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be celebrated 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Danny Boudreau officiating. There will be a private family interment at a later date.
Donations in George's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Nova Scotia Lung Association.
