JOHNSON - It is with heavy hearts that we wish to share the peaceful passing of Lois Ardene Johnson at the age of 65. She was a loving mother, wife, sister, grandmother and friend. She will be sadly missed by her husband and soul mate of 33 yrs, George; her daughters, Teri (Warren) of Kelowna, BC, Yvette (Herb) of Swift Current; sons, Joe (Jenn) of Swift Current, and Byron (James) of Kelowna, BC; her brothers, Bill (Madeleine) of Swift Current, and David (Barbara) of Calgary; her grandchildren James, Jennifer and Allie and Terilee and Dylan; her nieces and nephews, Lisa and Neal and Michael and Christy, Steven, Lane, Mark and Monica. She was predeceased by her parents, Neal (1955) and Peggy (1987) Breckon; her daughter, Yvonne (1965). Lois was born on August 25, 1943 at Swift Current, SK. Her school years were spent at Aneroid, Houghton, White Bear and Neville. She married in December 1963, and had three girls, Teri, Yvette and Yvonne. She was to attend Luther College and achieve her teaching certificate. She taught at both McMahon and Swift Current elementary schools. In 1974, she moved with her daughters to Swift Current and began working at Sasktel in the business office. In 1976, she married George and stayed at home to raise the children. She went on to have two more children Joe and Byron. Over the years Lois has belonged to many clubs, from CGIT as a girl to the Order of Eastern Star. She was a past president of the local Eagle chapter. She supported her children by joining the parents committees of the local Job's Daughters, Air and Sea Cadets, Beaver groups and swim clubs. She joined her husband in several activities from the local CB club and Fraternal Order of Eagles. After suffering a major stoke, in 1990, she moved in the Palliser Regional Care Center. There she was a social butterfly loved by both staff and residents. She supported the Heart and Stroke fund and participated yearly in the MS walk. She was joined in the Palliser by George in 1992 and continued to be as active as she could. She wrote poetry and even had one her poems published. She enjoyed learning computer skills and always up to learn a new craft. Lois was also known as a wonderer and would go often for adventures on her own, such coffee at the mall and the Co-op. She made these trips often no matter what the weather. She loved life and enjoyed her grandchildren greatly. She was as excited to have her children from Swift Current visit as she was for the ones who lived a far. She shared a special relationship with her youngest grandson who would make secret trips to visit her every chance he got. Lois was very proud of her children who were as unique as they were special to her. She would delight in her daughter Teri's visits from far off lands and when she would return with her grandchildren in tow. She was very proud of her daughter Yvette when she graduated with her degree in Psychology and loved that she remained close by with her grandchildren. She enjoyed her son Joe's adventuress spirit and was elated when he told her he was engaged this year. Lois burst with pride when her baby boy Byron graduated with his degree in Business Administration and found happiness with his partner. Mom often would tell each one her children that they were her favourite first born girl, youngest girl, first born boy and youngest boy. So we were all her favourite in our own special way. She had a passion for gardening and unfortunately was unable to after her hospitalization, however she lived vicariously through her brother's garden. She loved to show pictures of David’s garden and yard to everyone. Lois was extremely grateful to her brother, Bill and his wife, Madeleine for tremendous support and care during their stay at the Palliser. She appreciated the love and compassion shown toward their four children who often need their support as well. Words can't express the gratitude we feel for the staff at the Palliser Regional Care Centre for the care and compassion they showed both or parents. We appreciate the care and compassion extended by staff to our family during the finally hours both of our parents. A memorial service was held Friday, June 12, 2009, from First United Church, Swift Current, SK, with Reverend Kevin Johnston officiating. The organist was Marilyn King accompanied by the United Church Choir. The life tribute was presented by Sandra Harlick and Beverly Heiser read the poem of Lois's that had been published. An honour guard was formed by members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and members of the Eastern Star, who observed the funeral rite. In Lois's memory friends may make a memorial donation to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Lois's will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her family and friends.
