F Leo Martin

MARTIN - F. Léo Martin, with the Brothers of Christian Instruction, F. Joseph Léo in religion, passed away on October 28, 2010, at La Prairie infirmary. He was 83 and in the 67th year of his religious profession. Born on May 11, 1927 in Port-Alfred, Léo Martin was the son of the late Jean and Louise (Thébeau) Martin. He joined the novitiate in La Prairie in 1943 and made his perpetual profession in 1949. After a few years of teaching in Québec, he was transferred to the province of New Brunswick where he taught in Grand-Falls, Rogersville, Dalhousie and Shediac. In 1990, he became provincial superior. At the end of his mandate, he went to the Philippines but had to return to Canada due to serious health problems in 1999. He lived in Shediac. In 2007, he had to retire at La Prairie infirmary because of his health. Besides his religious family, he is survived by his brothers: René (Reina Ledoux), Antoine (Yvette Tourangeau), Robert (Carole Joyce) and his sisters: Sadie, Marguerite, Marie, Huguette (Jacques Cécyre) as well as his nephews and nieces.
Remains resting at Maison Mère des Frères de l'Instruction chrétienne, 870 Saint-Jean Road, in La Prairie, from where the funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday November 3, 2010 at 2 p.m. Visiting hours Tuesday November 2 from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 1 p.m. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Direction Urgel Bourgie.
