JOHNSON - Shelby Dea Johnson, born June 29, 1965, passed away on June 11, 2009, at the Cypress Regional Hospital at the age of 43. She left us after a long courageous battle with cancer. The memorial service was held June 16, 2009, from St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Swift Current, SK, with Pastor Linda Hall officiating. Special CD music selections were provided by her brother, Tim Johnson. Guitar and solo, "Tears In Heaven," was performed by her son, Cody Johnson. The life tribute was read by her brother, Tim Johnson and sister, Tammy Sutton. The obituary was read by Shannon Johnson. "Don't Stop" by Fleetwood Mac was specially requested by Shelby to be dedicated to her boys. The ushers were Myles and Mark Brown and honorary pallbearers were all who shared in Shelby's life. Memory boards were done by Brittany and Savannah Johnson and a painting was provided by her mother Donna-Val. The dedication of Shelby's ashes will take place at a later date. Shelby is survived by her dog, Amber; life companion, Darren Brown of Leinan; two sons, Cody Johnson of Nanaimo, BC, and Riley Hurl of Swift Current, SK; her mother, Donna-Val and step father, Wilf Hodgins of Kyle; brother, Tim (Shannon) of Swift Current, and their children, Brittany, Savannah, and Ryker; sister, Tammy Sutton of Edmonton and Paul Sutton and their family Cory, Tyler, and Dallas; grandmother, Val Reid of Swift Current; step mother, Vera Johnson-Young of Swift Current; mother-in-law, Elsie Brown of Leinan; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mark Linda Brown and their family Angela, and Miranda of Leinan; Myles (Vicky) Brown and family of Leinan; aunt and uncles; Dean Johnson of Stewart Valley and Donna Lee (Julian) Nerada of Sylvan Lake and families, AB; step-sisters, Melody and son Sean Hodgins of Ponoka, AB; Lynne Lindsay and family of Medicine Hat, SK; step-brothers Kenton Hodgins of Medicine Hat, AB.; Darren, David, Garth, Glen, Grant and Keith Young and families; the Hurl families and numerous nieces nephews cousins and many friends. She was predeceased by her father. Gerald "Ted" Johnson in 1994; grandparents, Robert "Bob" Johnson in 1978, Ruby Johnson in 1987 and Allan Reid in 1997; one uncle., Garvin Reid in 1975. Shelby was born on June 29, 1965, in Swift Current. She attended school at Central School, Beatty Collegiate, Kyle Composite School, Swift Current Comprehensive High School and Cypress Hills Community College. She married Gary Hurl on June 25, 1995, in Swift Current. Shelby was a hard worker and started work at the Lucky Dollar in Kyle while in grade 10. She then worked as a waitress the next couple years at North Road Pizza, Boston Pizza, Venice House, Akropol and the Horseshoe Lodge. After obtaining her secretarial course she was employed with a local law firm until Riley was born. She then began work for the Sask. Council for Entrepreneurs as Executive Assistant. Due to a cut back in hours she took a job with Larson Trucking doing books and the Simmie Hotel doing books on the weekends. Her final position was as an Assistant Manager at Crystal Fresh until her illness. Shelby was a member of various clubs. The Pioneer Girls, Brownies, and Sea Cadets and took swimming lessons every year when growing up. She also skated with Mom at "Housewife's Skating." In her spare time, Shelby loved to camp, especially at Sask. Landing and could fish with the best of them. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking and crocheting, excelling at all of them. She loved people, with a heart as big as the Grand Canyon and lived her life to the beat of her own drum, as everyone knew. We are proud of the marvellous person you were, and knowing your unbelievable strength and courage has touched all our hearts. You are an inspiration to all who knew and loved you. You will be missed but Heaven has a new angel and now you are finally free.
