The death of Laura Frances Sherrard wife of Hubert Sherrard of Whitney, NB, occurred at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at the age of 74. Born in St. George, NB, Laura was the daughter of the late Adams W. and Evelyn C. (McGarrigle) Kernighan. Laura retired from MVHS after 35 years of service to education in New Brunswick. She began teaching in Port Elgin in 1956 and moved to Newcastle in 1957. Active in professional organizations, member of the Advisory Council on Status of Women, the Home Economics Association, the Home Economics Subject Council and was former President of District 8 NBTA. After retiring, Laura enjoyed tole and oil painting, gardening and traveling. Besides her husband Hubert, Laura is survived by: two daughters: Shelley Sherrard (Bruce Pond) of New Maryland, NB and Esther Mead (Fred) of Beaverdam, NB; one sister: Theresa Hillock (Boyd) of Miramichi, NB; one brother: Fred (Marvel) of Maple Glen, NB; six grandchildren: Spencer, Colin, Lucas, Matthew, Kris and Michael; one great grandson: Sylar and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Laura is predeceased by: her sister: Helen Somers.
The family will receive visitors at Bell’s Funeral Home on Saturday from 6 to 9 PM and Sunday from 6 to 9 PM. The Funeral Service will be held from the Sterling Bell Memorial Chapel on Monday, November 8, 2010 at 2 PM with Rev. John Fraser officiating. In Laura’s memory, donations may be made to a memorial of one’s choice.
