Nicole Gwendolyn Heighton

LYONS BROOK – Nicole Gwendolyn Heighton, 24, of Lyons Brook, ... a beloved daughter, taken from us too soon, died Nov. 4, 2010 in Truemanville, Nova Scotia as a result of a motor vehicle accident.
Born in New Glasgow, she was the daughter of Shirlee Heighton (Glenn Baker) Lyons Brook and Glen Heighton (Kathy) Pictou.
A graduate of Northumberland Regional High School, Nicole enjoyed soccer, hockey, and was a dedicated member of the school band. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science from Mount Allison University, and her Education Degree from St. Francis Xavier University. Nicole loved to teach. Even as a student, she had tutored, taught Sunday school and coached soccer. Just this fall she accomplished her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher like her grandmother, when she began teaching math and science at North Colchester High School, Tatamagouche.
She is survived by her common-law partner, Chris Harborne, Sackville, New Brunswick; brother, Steven; half-brother, Adam; step-sisters, Leah Strickland, Morgan Baker; and step-brother, Troy Baker; paternal grandmother, Mabel Heighton, Scotsburn.
She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Gwen and Bill Embree; and paternal grandfather, Victor Heighton.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Monday from Pictou United Church, with Rev. Doug Pilsworth officiating. Burial will be in Holy Name Cemetery, Westville.
