SWEENEY, Carrie Agnes - 97 of Nictaux, passed away Monday, November 1, 2010 in North Hills Nursing Home, Granville Ferry. Born in Lawrencetown, Annapolis County, she was a daughter of the late David and Carrie A. (Trimper) Layte. Carrie worked for the Department of Highways for 21 years. She was a Charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star Annavale Chapter #31, having received her 60 year pin, and a member of St. John’s United Church, Middleton. She was an avid curler and was a member of a mixed team from Middleton that won the NS Provincial Championship in 1962. The team was inducted into the Middleton Sports Wall of Fame in 2002. She enjoyed fishing and watching and listening to sports such as hockey, baseball, golf and curling. She spent many hours keeping the scores and stats of her favorite baseball team. She was an excellent bridge player and enjoyed the game well into her 90s. Friends and the time spent with them was most important to her. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. She is survived by her loving family; daughter, Jo-Marie (Wayne) Sheppard, Halifax; sons, Hugh (Barbara), Chilliwack, BC; Michael (Glenna), Centreville, NS; four grandchildren, Dr. Kelly MacKay, Winnipeg, MB; Leigh (Shawn) Stimson, Vars, ON; Denise Sweeney, Maple Ridge, BC; Erin (Marco) Agostini, Burnaby, BC; three great grandchildren, Sarah, Austin and Nathan and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, W. Patrick Sweeney, brothers, Harry, Clifford, Horace, Eugene and Percy. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 7-9 PM, November 11, in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448. A memorial service beginning with an Order of the Eastern Star service conducted by Annavale Chapter #31 will be held 2:00PM, November 12, 2010 in Middleton Funeral Home, with Rev. Karen Ralph officiating. A reception will follow. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. By request, family flowers only.
