RIVERTON/THORBURN – Clifford Daniel MacDonald, 90, of the Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Thorburn passed away November 8, 2010 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Thorburn, he was a son of the late Angus and Mary (MacLaren) MacDonald.
Clifford just celebrated his 90th birthday with family and friends at the Villa. Clifford lived all of his life in Cricketfield (Thorburn) and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a member and Elder of the Union Presbyterian Church in Thorburn where he also served on the Board of Managers. He was a member of Hudson Masonic Lodge AF&AM No. 77 Thorburn, Thorburn War Veteran’s Association and the Thorburn Improvement Association.
Clifford served overseas during World War II and upon his return to Canada, went on to work at the McBean Mine in Thorburn for some 26 years. Following the closure of the mine, Clifford was employed by Michelin Tire from where he retired in 1985 after 13 years service.
He is survived by his brother-in-law, Fred (Joyce) Livingston, Thorburn; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Isabel (Livingston) with whom he celebrated 61 years together, brothers: Fred, John, Fraser and Herman, sisters: Chris Campbell, Annie Fraser and Jennie Campbell.
His remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow, for visiting from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday from the Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn, with Rev. Jeff Lackie presiding. Burial to take place in the Thorburn Cemetery with a reception to follow in the church hall.
Hudson Masonic Lodge AF&AM No. 77 Thorburn will meet at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. Thursday to conduct their service of remembrance.
