MEISTER - Paul Meister, beloved husband and best friend of Inge Meister of Gull Lake, SK, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2009, at the age of 75 years. Born in Biel, Switzerland, on August 21, 1933, Paul received his diploma from Strickhof Agricultural College in Wehntal, Switzerland, before heading to Canada in April, 1953. It was on this voyage that Paul met Inge who was on her way to Shaunavon with her parents and two sisters. Paul continued on to Quebec where he worked on a dairy farm but Inge was still on his mind. He decided to hitchhike back to the prairies to the Clark Ranch south of Shaunavon. Outside of Gull Lake, Henry Buck offered Paul a ride to the ranch on the condition that he come and work for him. Paul accepted and worked for Henry then for Clifford Clark. From there, Paul went to Blind River, ON, where he was employed as a timekeeper at a sawmill and later helped survey for the Algoma Uranium Mines. Inge followed Paul out to Blind River where they were married on December 27, 1954. Paul and Inge returned to southwest Saskatchewan in 1955 to farm with his father-in-law, Hans Schwarz. They rented the farm of Henry Schradick and Hank Grubel, later purchasing the Schradick farm and the Tetzlaff farm in the Aldag district. Over the years, Paul was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star, a Boy Scout leader and member and chairman of the Gull Lake School Division #76 board. He loved farming, skiing, snorkelling and travelling. It didn’t matter where Paul was—the Caribbean, Fairmont or Temple Gardens Mineral Spa—he knew everyone at the beach or pool by the end of the day and they all greeted him by name in return. Paul is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Inge and their four children: David Meister of Swift Current; Bob (Carol) Meister of Gull Lake and their children, Jessica and Ben; Stephen (Diana) Meister of Singapore and their children, Dale, Kim and Lisa; Carry (Ronni) Farris of Turon, Kansas and their child, Jennifer; brother Toni (Els) Meister of Rheinfelden, Switzerland; twin brother Jurg (Therese) Meister of Zurich, Switzerland; sister Hanna (Stoeffi ) Meister of Winterthur, Switzerland; sister-in-law ,Edith Schwarz of Kelowna, BC. Paul was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Louise Meister; Inge’s parents, Hans and Gertrude Schwarz; and Inge’s sister, Elsie Schwarz. As per Paul’s wishes, there will be no formal service. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Knox United Church in Gull Lake. Warren’s Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
