John ‘Butch’ MacKinnon, 67, of Emerald Street, Scotchtown, passed away suddenly Saturday, June 20, 2009, at his residence.
Butch was born in Inverness and was the son of the late John and Mary (Odo) MacKinnon.
For most of his life he worked as a mail carrier and also spent a few years as a truck driver. He enjoyed working many long hours in his yard and it shows. Butch was a quiet and gentle soul and his passing leaves an empty space in many hearts.
He is survived by his loving wife, Louise (Deruelle); and children, son, James ‘Roddie’ (Sharon), Toronto, Ont.; daughters, Sandra (Debra) MacKinnon, Kingston, Ont., Karen Gallant, Toronto, Ont.; sisters, Christina Holland, Connecticut, Juanita (Dennis) Noland, Joan MacKinnon both of Kitchener, Ont.; brothers, Gerald ‘Honey’ (Yolanda) and Bernie, both of New Waterford, Jim (Ingrid), Kitchener, Ont.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild;as well as many nieces and nephews; and numerous great friends.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his stepmother, Verna, and his brother, James.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183, Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500. A memorial service will take place Wednesday, June 24 at 2 p.m. in the McLellan Brother’s Funeral Chapel with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Interment will follow in Union Grove Cemetery Scotchtown. A luncheon will take place following the service in the Knights of Columbus Hall 3226 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, and all are welcome to attend.
