On November 16, 2010, Stella Shefsky passed away very peacefully from lung cancer at Kamloops Seniors Village at the age of 90 years.
Stella is survived by her loving daughter Carol (Gary) Bacon of Kamloops; her five grandchildren: Dean Bacon of Vancouver, Corey (Deborah) Bacon of Kamloops, Trevor (Monica) Shefsky of Stony Plain, Alta., Lisa Shefsky of Calgary, and Trent (Stacey) Shefsky of Kelowna; nine great grandchildren; and her sister Lori (a.k.a. Helen) Sheba.
Stella felt great joy in having great grandchildren. Sophie and Jack living so close to her (their GG).
She was predeceased by husband Jack (1971), son David (1978), sisters Olga (2002), Elsie (2008), Ada (2009), and Perlee (2010).
Stella Sheba was born in Edmonton, Alta., the fifth of six girls. She married Jack Shefsky in 1940 in Edmonton, where their two children were later born. In 1949 the family moved to Westlock, Alta., where Jack was manager of The Westlock Mercantile, then owner of Shefsky's Shopping Center which later became Westlock IGA. Stella assisted Jack in these endeavours, as well as being a co-owner for a short time of the Notion & Novelty Shop in the 1950's. A few years after Jack's death in 1971, Stella moved to Edmonton where she worked in the jewelry department for Woodward's Westmount. Following her son's premature death and later her recovery from a serious car accident, she decided to move closer to her daughter in Kamloops, where she resided for 24 years until her death.
Known for her feisty personality as she grew older, Stella will be missed by the on-earth angels who cared for her so lovingly and patiently at Kamloops Senior Village for the past two years and at Ponderosa Lodge for over three years. The family will forever be grateful for the excellent care and sincere affection shown to Stella by so many staff, even in difficult times. There are so many names to mention but extra special appreciation to Maria at KSV and Bonnie, her hip physio assistant for eight years, both who treated Stella as if she were their own mother.
No service by request. Disposition of cremated remains of both Jack and Stella will be carried out at a later date in Westlock.
Should friends desire, donations can be sent to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
