
Sidney Melanson
Sidney J. Melanson "Sunshine", 93 years of age, of River Hebert, passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2010. Born in River Hebert he was a son of the late Lorong & Ina (Burbine) Melanson.
A retired coal miner, "Sunshine" also worked in Ontario for a number of years. He was a member of the River Hebert Legion Branch # 14. A hunter and fisherman he was also a horse lover. He was an honorary member of the Brookside Curling Club and a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church.
He will be sadly missed by daughters, Doris Davis, Amherst, Joan Hebert (Roger) of Salmon Arm, BC, Gloria and Terry, River Hebert, Janice Parker (Jack), Brenda McInnis, both of River Hebert, NS; sons, Sidney (Helen) Joggins, NS, Bruce and Susan of River Hebert; 30 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren; brothers, Carl (Dolly) and Donald and a sister, Mona (Scotty) .
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife, the former Agnes Edwards; sons, Jackie and Clifford; 3 grandchildren, Glennie and Terry Davis and Shane Melanson; sisters, Dorothy, Mazie, Sarah, Helen, Jessie and Hazel; brothers, Danny , Charlie, Frankie and Lester.
Sidney's remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, River Hebert where a time of visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral mass will be held Monday, November 22, 2010 at 11 am from St. Paul the Apostle Church, River Hebert. Burial in the St. Denis Cemetery, Minudie. River Hebert Branch # 14, Royal Canadian Legion will hold a memorial tribute service at 7 pm and Parish Prayers will be held at 8 pm, both at the funeral home. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society gratefully appreciated.
