It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father, Thomas Joseph Lamey, of New Victoria, on Nov. 21, 2010, at Taigh Na Mara, Glace Bay, with his family by his side.
Born in New Victoria, he was a son of the late Rita Lamey (MacDonald).
He was a member of the Merchant Seaman Association, New Victoria Fire Department and New Waterford Historical Society. Dad was very active in his community, always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. Tom was instrumental in erecting a monument with good friend ‘Ebby’ in New Victoria in honour of fallen comrades who never returned home.
He is survived by his children, daughters, Harriet (George) Hawley, Marilyn (John) Clements, Wanda (David) Rose, Rita (Leo) Murphy; sons, Everett (Cathy), Tony (Elaine), Blair (Darlene), Billy (Tara) and Harold. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Gouthro; brother, Harold; stepbrothers, Tony MacDonald, Johnny MacDonald; stepsister, Kathleen.
Tom was predeceased by his wife, Eva, daughters, Donna Marie and baby Mary, grandsons, Tony Hawley and Michael Rose, mother, Rita MacDonald and stepbrother, Billy.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration for Tom will take place Thursday, Nov. 25, at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery, New Victoria, with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard’s Parish Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford.
