It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Dorothy MacDonald on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Donald ‘Danny’ MacSween and Anna Mae Bonaparte.
In her younger years Dorothy played darts on many leagues. She enjoyed playing bingo and especially the VLTs at the French Club, the Elks Club and at Freds in Eskasoni.
Dorothy is survived by her only daughter, Frances (Kenny Googoo), whom she lived with for the past seven years in Eskasoni. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Annie (Alphonse) Young, Alexina Sampson (Joe Marshall), Gina Lee Googoo (Don Johnson); three great-grandchildren, Lynzie Sampson, Londyn Sampson and Haylee Young, all of Eskasoni; sisters, Willena (Charlie) Cook, Sydney, Donita (Gordie) Ley, Barrie, Ont.; her brother, Charlie (Marie) Bailey, St. Thomas, Ont.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alex MacDonald, her sisters, Nora MacSween, Norma MacSween, Ann Marie Sampson, her brothers, William ‘Billy’ MacSween, John Langley, stepfather, Charles ‘Ace’ Bailey. She was also predeceased by her very special friend, Mick MacLean.
Visitation for the late Dorothy MacDonald will be at the home of her daughter, Francis Googoo at 140 Spencer Lane in Eskasoni, Saturday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. and all day Sunday, Nov. 28. The funeral mass will be held Monday, Nov. 29 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church with burial at Sacred Heart Mission in MacKinnon Harbour.
At Dorothy’s request, donations may be made to the family or charity of one’s choice.
